Shows to Check Out in New York this Weekend (December 8-10, 2017)

New York is one of the best places to see a live show. From the big-name artists that come through on tour to the bands working their way up at the smaller clubs, the area is filled with amazing music every day of the week. That includes this weekend as well.

This weekend is overflowing with amazing shows just begging for your attention. From punk rockers like the Bouncing Souls and T.S.O.L. to pop juggernauts like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to established rock artists like Cyndi Lauper and Todd Rundgren, there are a lot of great artists in town.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves live music. That’s why we’ve compiled this list detailing some of the hottest shows happening in New York this weekend. Here are 10 that you won’t want to miss.

1.       Bouncing Souls: Pop-punk veterans The Bouncing Souls are playing a few shows on the east coast this weekend. The band, who released their latest album, ‘Simplicity,’ last year, will be bringing legendary California punk band T.S.O.L. with them. (Friday, Mulcahy’s)

2.       High School Football Heroes: Long Island ska band High School Football Heroes will be playing their first show in New York since February when they hit the stage in Brooklyn tonight.  If you can’t make this show, the band will be opening for another hometown mainstay, Patent Pending, on December 22 on Long Island. (Friday, Safari Room at El Cortez)

3.       Jingle Ball: Z100 holds their annual holiday show tonight and it is packed with some of this year’s hottest artists. Expect sets from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers, Sam Smith, Halsey, Fall Out Boy, Charlie Puth, Julia Michaels, One Direction’s Niall Horan and Liam Payne, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Logic and more. (Friday, Madison Square Garden)

4.       Chevelle: Hard rockers Chevelle are in the middle of a month-long US tour that will be hitting Long Island tonight. The show is being sponsored by local radio station 94.3 The Shark as one of their Ho Ho Ho Fest concerts. Chevelle released their latest album, ‘The North Corridor,’ last year. (Friday, The Paramount Huntington)

5.       Cyndi Lauper: Cyndi Lauper will be holding her annual star-studded Home for the Holidays event this weekend. An evening of comedy and music, the night’s performers include Lauper, Jackson Browne, Dr. John, Pualina Rubio, Sandra Bernhard, Ani DiFranco, Against Me’s Laura Jane Grace, Peaches, Judy Gold and more. The show will be hosted by Carson Kressley and all proceeds will go to Lauper’s True Colors Fund. (Saturday, Beacon Theatre)

6.       Todd Rundgren: Touring behind his latest effort, ‘White Knight,’ released in May. Rundgren career spans decades, having played with a veritable who’s who of artists on top of his own very successful projects. (Saturday, NYCB Theatre at Westbury)

7.       Ted Leo & the Pharmacists: Ted Leo released his first album in seven years, ‘The Hanged Man,’ this past September. The band is currently wrapping up a North American tour behind the album with the final two shows in New York this weekend. Saturday’s show is sold out, but there are still a few tickets left for Sunday night. (Saturday & Sunday, Music Hall of Williamsburg)

8.       Perfume Genius: One of the most talked about artists of 2017, Perfume Genius will be bringing his brand of indie-pop to New York this weekend. The singer/songwriter released his fourth studio album, ‘No Shape,’ in May. (Sunday, Bowery Ballroom)

9.       Hadag Nahash: For all the Christmas concerts happening in the area, here’s one for Hanukkah. Israeli funk/hip-hop band Hadag Nahash is currently on tour in the US and will be making their way to New York this weekend, just in time for the festival of lights. (Sunday, Gramercy Theatre)
10.   The Jesus Lizard: Freshly reunited for a second time, The Jesus Lizard will be hitting the stage in New York this Sunday.  This is their first tour in nearly a decade. Whether anything new comes out of this reunion remains to be seen. (Sunday, Irving Plaza)
