The New York / New Jersey area has one of the best music scenes in the
world. From big bands passing through to smaller bands that pay their dues at
the smaller clubs, there is always something going on.
As always, New York and New Jersey will be buzzing with
music all weekend long. The Mondo.NYC Festival has been bringing new bands to
the city all week and will continue on into the weekend. Katy Perry is bringing
her monster tour through the area. For rock fans, The National, the Psychedelic
Furs and Halestorm all be playing the area this weekend.
Still looking for something to do this weekend? Vinyl Bay777, Long Island’s music outlet, has you covered. Here are seven shows
happening in the tri-state area this weekend that we think will be worth
checking out.
1.
Jeremy and the Harlequins: We’re at the tail end
of Mondo.NYC fest, which in its second year is bringing some of the most
talented artists from around the world to the city. However, the festival didn’t
have to go too far to find Jeremy and the Harlequins. The New York rockabilly
band puts on an amazing show that you won’t want to miss. Their music will figuratively
transport you back to the 1950s/1960s. (Friday, Piano’s)
2.
The
National: The National released their seventh studio album, ‘Sleep Well
Beast,’ last month to positive reviews. Now the band is taking the album out on
the road, hitting Queens tonight. Daughter will be opening the show. (Friday,
Forest Hills Stadium)
3.
Katy Perry: If you’re in the mood for an
over-the-top pop show, Katy Perry will be in the area this weekend. Her new album
is pretty hit or miss, but she does have some solid tunes in her arsenal to
make seeing her live worthwhile. Joining her will be Noah Cyrus, who has been
developing quite a following as of late. (Friday, Madison Square Garden;
Sunday, Prudential Center)
4.
Tony
Bennett: Tony Bennett is still going strong at 91. The legendary crooner released
a new album last year for his 90th birthday and has not lost his
voice one bit. Bennett plays his last show in New York tonight before heading
to Las Vegas next month for a six-show residency. (Friday, Radio City Music
Hall)
5.
The Psychedelic Furs and BASH & POP: The
Psychedelic Furs recently kicked off a month-long east coast leg of their “Singles
Tour,” playing all the singles that made them so popular. Joining them will be
Bash & Pop, who recently reformed with ex-Replacements
bassist Tommy Stinson as the sole original member. If you can’t make it out to
New Jersey on Saturday, the tour will be swinging back around to New York,
playing shows at The Paramount in Huntington on October 21 and the Warsaw in
Brooklyn on October 22. (Saturday, Wellmont Theater)
6.
Halestorm: Halestorm are celebrating Halloween all
October on their “Halloween Scream” tour. Get ready for a high-energy mental
show that the band describes as “mayhem.” Joining them will be Starset and
fellow female-fronted hardcore band New Year’s Day. (Sunday, Space at Westbury)
7.
The
B-52s: Known for their unique sound and performances, The B-52s have been
delighting fans for decades. The band is celebrating their 40th
anniversary this year, touring and playing their biggest hits. If you weren’t
able to catch their show in Huntington last night, the band will be celebrating
their milestone in New Jersey on Sunday. (Sunday, Bergen Performing Arts Center)
Whether you’re into rock, pop or vocals, there is always something
going on in the New York / New Jersey area. These are some of our picks for the
weekend’s top shows. If you’re still on
the fence about what to do this weekend, check out these or any of the other
amazing shows that are always going on in the area.
