Shows In New York This Weekend (November 3- 5, 2017)

The weekend is almost here! Time to finalize those plans to make sure you get every last bit of rest and relaxation out of it. If you’re still not sure what to do, why not check out some live music?

Live music is a great way to get out and enjoy the weekend and New York is filled with it on a regular basis. This weekend alone will be stacked with top rock and hip-hop talent. Check out classic rock and metal hits with Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Dennis DeYoung of Styx and members of Dio. Today’s top rock acts are represented too with shows by The Shins and The Maine hitting the area this weekend. There’s even a classic line-up of 2000s hip-hop artists coming together for one massive show.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves live music. That’s why we’ve once again searched the internet for this weekend’s hottest shows in the New York area. Here are nine that we think will be worth checking out.

1.       The Shins: The Shins released their first album in five years, ‘Heartworms,’ this past March and its really good. The band is currently touring behind the album with Baio as support. (Friday, Kings Theatre)

2.       Uke-Hunt: If you love ukulele covers of songs that probably shouldn’t be covered by ukulele, then you’ll love Uke-Hunt. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes frontman Spike Slawson returns to New York tonight with his second covers project. This is sure to be a vibrant show filled with punk-ish ukulele covers and amazing banter. (Friday, Safari Room at El Cortez)

3.       Dee Snider: Though Twisted Sister has called it quits for now, frontman Dee Snider is still out working his metal magic. In addition to various charitable appearances he’s made, he released his third solo album, ‘We Are the Ones,’ last year. Snider will be playing a couple of one-off shows in New York this weekend. The event description says he’s playing new music and Twisted Sister classics, so you won’t want to miss it. (Friday, Paramount Huntington)

4.       Ian Anderson: Rock’s most beloved flutist comes to New York this weekend with a full set of Jethro Tull classics. These are Anderson’s final US shows of 2017 before he heads over to Europe for the holiday season and to begin his Jethro Tull 50th anniversary celebration. (Friday, Beacon Theatre)

5.       Masters of Ceremony: This event is going to be a veritable who’s who of hip-hop’s top voices, this time with an accent on the early 2000s. Artists set to perform include 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, Fabolous, Beanie Sigel and more. (Friday, Barclays Center)

6.       Swans: Swans released their final album, ‘The Glowing Man,’ last year and are currently in the midst of playing their final shows in their current form. After these shows, the band will dissolve and frontman Michael Gira will start recording with a “revolving cast of musicians.” Catch them before the next phase in the band’s history begins. (Friday & Saturday, Warsaw)

7.       Dennis DeYoung: Dennis DeYoung is currently on a solo tour performing the music of Styx. Hear the band’s former frontman play their biggest hits, many of which he wrote. (Saturday, Paramount Huntington)

8.       Last In Line (Dio Tribute): If you love the music of Ronnie James Dio, Last In Line is the only tribute band you need, mainly because it is Dio without Dio. Until 2015, Vivian Campbell, Jimmy Bain, Claude Schnell and Vinny Appice were all members of the band. Campbell and Appice are still holding strong along with singer, and will be playing on Long Island this weekend celebrating the music of Dio. (Saturday, Mulcahy’s)

9.       The Maine: The Maine released their sixth album, ‘Lovely Little Lonely,’ earlier this year to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Currently on tour behind the album, the band hits Long Island this weekend with Dreamers and Night Riots in tow. (Sunday, Paramount Huntington)

These are just some of the many shows happening in the New York area this weekend that we think will be worth seeing. Check these out and spend your weekend the right way, rocking out to live music.
