Listening to music is a great way to unwind after a long week
of work or school. The same goes for live music. Taking in a show is not only a
great way to kick back and have some fun, but the memories made will last you
your entire life.
As always, New York will be filled with great music this
weekend. From punk and metal bands like Anti-Flag and Machine Head to the
Americana punk of Brian Fallon and classic sound of Michael McDonald, there is
something for every kind of rock fan. Those that love the new Latin sound can
check out the LA X Love Live show. There are even some great comedians out
there this weekend for those who really want to laugh.
Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves a good live
show. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of the top shows happening in
the New York area this weekend. Here are seven we think will be worth checking
out.
1.
Brian
Fallon: Gaslight
Anthem frontman Brian Fallon’s new solo album, ‘Sleepwalkers,’ comes out
today. To celebrate, the singer-songwriter will be bringing his signature Americana-punk
sound to town for an intimate show in Brooklyn tonight before heading out on
tour in April. (Friday, Rough Trade)
2.
J Balvin & Luis Fonsi: Already a big hit in
Dallas and Los Angeles, Univision’s Uforia Music Series will be bringing its LA
X Love Live show to New York tonight. Featuring Luis Fonsi, who’s “Despacito”
was one of the biggest songs of 2017, J Balvin and more up-and-coming Latin and
reggaeton musicians, this show is bound to be hot. (Friday, Radio City Music
Hall)
3.
Machine Head: Metal band Machine Head released
their latest album, ‘Catharsis,’ last month. The album has become their highest-charting
album to date, coming in at number 17 on the Soundscan Top Current Chart. The
band will be bringing their world tour to New York tonight, so get ready to
have your face melted. (Friday, Playstation Theater)
4.
Michael McDonald: Last year, Michael McDonald
released ‘Wide Open,’ his first album of original music in nearly 17 years.
Catch the singer performing new songs, as well as the classics everyone knows
and loves, on Long Island this weekend. If you can’t make this weekend’s show,
McDonald will be back next month, playing Staten Island’s St. George Theatre on
March 24. (Saturday, Tilles Center)
5.
Joan Osborne’s DYLANOLOGY: Joan Osborne (best
known for her 1995 hit “One Of Us”) will be playing two special shows in the
area this weekend paying homage to the legendary Bob
Dylan. DYLANOLOGY will feature Osborne, along with special guests Jackie
Greene, Amy Helm and Robert Randolph covering his music. These shows are an
extension of Osborne’s recent album, ‘Songs of Bob Dylan,’ which she released
this past September. (Saturday, Highline Ballroom)
6.
Anti-Flag: More than two decades into their
career, Anti-Flag’s socially conscious punk rock is still as potent as ever. In
November, the band released their tenth studio album, ‘American Fall,’ to rave
reviews. The band wraps up their current tour behind the album in New York this
weekend before heading to Europe this spring. (Sunday, Highline Ballroom)
7.
Kevin James: As part of The Paramount Comedy
Series, Long Island comedian and star of ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Kevin James will be taking
the stage this weekend for his monthly stand-up set. Those that can’t get tickets for this weekend
will have the chance to see him in March and April. (Sunday, Paramount
Huntington)
Unwind this weekend by checking out some live music. New
York’s bustling music scene is filled with amazing music every night of the
week, this weekend included. Check out these or any of the other amazing shows happening
around the area and spend your weekend having fun and making memories.
