New York has one of the most vibrant music scenes in the
world. Boasting shows large and small every night of the week, there is always
something going on. That especially goes for the weekends.
This weekend is no different as there are a plethora of
shows coming up over the next few days for your entertainment pleasure. To
start with, Bruno Mars will be bringing his ‘24K Magic’ arena tour to the area.
Korean pop heartthrobs BTS will be playing a special, just added New York date
this weekend that has people lining up days in advance. Both New Kids on the
Block and Liz Phair are celebrating milestone anniversaries with shows in the
area this weekend. Rockers big and small from Slash and Myles Kennedy, Thrice
and Brian Fallon to Tauk, will also be around. There are even some rare shows
from living legends like Eric Clapton and Diana Ross happening as well.

1.
Thrice: Last month, California hard rock band
Thrice released their 10th studio album, ‘Palms,’ their first on
Epitaph Records. According to a press release, the album is supposed to be
their “most sonically expansive album” to date. The band is currently on tour
behind the album, hitting New York with The Bronx and Teenage Wrist as openers.

Bruno Mars: Back in 2016, R&B / Pop artist
Bruno Mars released his third album, ‘24K Magic.’ The album, which blended his
love of 80s and 90s funk with today’s pop, became one of the best-selling of
the year. Mars will be wrapping up his year-and-a-half long world tour this over
the next month, stopping by Brooklyn’s Barclays Center tonight with
up-and-comer Ella Mai as support. (Friday, Barclays Center)

Slash
feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators: After touring with Guns
N’ Roses for the last two years, guitarist Slash is back with a new solo
album, ‘Living the Dream,’ with his band Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. Of
the album, Slash has
said that the new album is a bit more “diverse” and “unpredictable” while
also having “a bit more structure.” Slash and the band will be in the area all
week, playing shows in both Manhattan and Long Island. (Friday, The Rooftop at
Pier 17; Tuesday, The Paramount Huntington)

Tauk: Local instrumental jam band Tauk released a
new album, ‘Shapeshifter II: Outbreak,’ last month, the second half of their
sci-fi epic that started earlier this year with ‘Shapeshifter I: Construct.’ To
celebrate the album’s release, the band will be playing a CD release show this
weekend in NYC. These guys put on a fantastic, entrancing live show that will
have you dancing and grooving along to the music. (Saturday, Gramercy Theatre)

BTS: K-Pop (Korean Pop) has taken the world by
storm and the seven-piece BTS has been at the forefront of it all. Their latest
album, ‘Love Yourself: Tear,’ became the first number one album in the United
States by a Korean group. BTS is currently on their ‘Love Yourself’ World Tour,
wrapping up the US leg with a last-minute show at Citi Field this weekend after
selling out two shows at Prudential Center last week. (Saturday, Citi Field)

Diana
Ross: Legendary soul singer Diana Ross is still topping the charts more
than five decades after getting her start with The Supremes in the 1960s. Her
latest singles “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough 2017” and “I’m Coming Out/Upside
Down” recently topped the Billboard Dance Club chart. Ross will be playing a special
gala show on Long Island this weekend before resuming her Las Vegas residency. (Saturday,
Tilles Center)

Liz Phair: It has been 25 years since Liz Phair
released her breakthrough debut album ‘Exile in Guyville.’ Earlier this year, a
box set called ‘Girly-Sound to Guyville’ was released with a remastered version
of the album as well as demos and more. Phair is currently proposing to “Make
America Girly Again” on the ‘Amps On The Lawn’ tour, which hits New York this
weekend. (Saturday, Brooklyn Steel)

Eric
Clapton: With more than 23 solo albums and countless others with bands like
The
Yardbirds, Cream
and Blind Faith to his name, Eric Clapton is one of the most noted musicians of
the last half-century. He releases his 24th studio album, ‘Happy
Xmas,’ later this month. Clapton plays two shows in New York this weekend, the
only shows he has listed for the rest of the year. Gary Clark, Jr., who you can
also catch solo at Gramercy Theatre on Friday, opens both shows. (Saturday
& Sunday, Madison Square Garden)

New Kids
On The Block: NKOTB are celebrating the 30th anniversary of
their breakthrough album ‘Hangin’ Tough’ with a special show at New York’s Apollo
Theater this weekend. Before the Sunday event, a pop-up shop featuring
throwback merch and a photo installation will take over the venue’s lobby on Saturday.

Brian
Fallon & Craig Finn: Fresh off his ‘The ’59 Sound’ 10-year tour with The
Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon is back to promoting his sophomore solo
album, ‘Sleepwalkers,’ with an acoustic tour. After playing a show on Long Island
Wednesday, the ‘Songs From The Hymnal’ tour returns to New York for two shows
with special guest Craig Finn (The Hold Steady). Tickets for Sunday’s show are
already sold out, but there are still some available for Monday. (Sunday &
Monday, Music Hall of Williamsburg)
