Albums to Watch for in March 2020

March is here, which means a brand new month of new music. This month will see some big releases on the calendar, including long-awaited works from Mandy Moore, Boomtown Rats, Pearl Jam and more.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’re looking ahead at some of March’s most highly anticipated album releases. Here are eight that we think will be worth a listen.

1.       Mandy Moore, ‘Silver Landings’: It’s been 11 years since pop songstress Mandy Moore released her last album, ‘2009’s ‘Amanda Leigh.’ After having a successful acting career in the interim, Moore is back with ‘Silver Landings’ this week. The album is said to be very different than the bubblegum pop she came to prominence for, instead leaning more towards “something that feels sunshiny and airy and natural, something you could listen to driving up and down the PCH with all the windows rolled down on a beautiful weekend day.” (3/6)

2.       Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, ‘Blue Moon Rising EP’: The band’s fourth EP in a little over a year, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are set to release ‘Blue Moon Rising’ this week. The 5-track EP features three new songs (including one originally written for Oasis back in 2008) and two remixes. (3/6)

3.       Boomtown Rats, ‘Citizens of Boomtown’: Boomtown Rats have reunited and are releasing their first album of new music in 36 years this month. According to Rolling Stone, the album “has the classics Rats sound,” but “with many modern twists,” with frontman Bob Geldof adding, “We made this album for 2020.” That description is apt if you listen to the album’s first single “Trash Glam Baby,” as the song has a gritty rock sound reminiscent of 70s British punk. 4.       Deap Lips, ‘Deap Lips’: Deap Vally & The Flaming Lips came together late last year to form Deap Lips with the collaboration releasing its debut self-titled album this month. Spin called the album’s debut single “Hope Hell High” a mix of “Deap Vally’s bombastic, sludgy rock sensibilities softened a bit by Coyne and Drozd’s psychedelic tendencies.” (3/13)

5.       Adam Lambert, ‘Velvet’: Though he has been spending a lot of time with Queen lately, Adam Lambert is moving forward in his solo career with his latest album, ‘Velvet.’ The album heads in a classic rock – funk direction, inspired by his work with the legendary band. Lead single “Roses” has a big feel, blending funk and pop in a warm, full way. (3/20)

6.       Brian and Roger Eno, ‘Mixing Colours’: The first collaborative album between famed producer Brian Eno and his brother, ambient composer Roger Eno, ‘Mixing Colours’ has been a long time coming (According to Pitchfork, some of the works on the album go back to 2005). Brian said of the album’s songs, “These pieces are very Impressionistic and very much to do with sonic quality, sonic colour.”  First single “Celeste” is a piano-driven instrumental piece with a relaxing tone and sunny feel. 7.       Pearl Jam, ‘Gigaton’: Pearl Jam return this month with ‘Gigaton,’ their first album in 7 years. The music heads in a more eclectic, experimental direction, with guitarist Mike McCready saying in a statement that making the album “was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption.” First single “Dance Of The Clairvoyants” is a different, more electronic sound than the band has opted for in the past, but still manages to rock hard. “Superblood Wolfmoon” changes direction again, this time heading towards garage-rock.  (3/27)

8.       Coriky, ‘Coriky’: Featuring Fuguzi’s Ian MacKaye and Joe Lally and The Evens’ Amy Farina, Coriky will be releasing their debut solo album together this month. First single “Clean Kill” is a laid-back jam with a rough-around-the-edges sound and almost ska-like cadence that breaks off into some chaos towards the end but finds its way back. The song could be forshadowing an album that might be a bit more melodic than what their previous bands are known for, but also just as brash and up-front as you’d expect. (3/27)

Albums to Watch for in February 2020

We’re only a month into 2020 and the music being released is getting more and more epic. February is looking just as good with a lot of highly anticipated albums set for release in the next month from the likes of Justin Bieber, Green Day, Ozzy Osbourne, BTS and more.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’re taking a look at some of the new albums hitting shelves in February. From the highly anticipated to the highly recommended, here are seven albums (and a few more) we think will be worth keeping an eye out for.

1.       Green Day, ‘Father Of All Motherf******’: A noted departure from the pop-punk/arena rock sound Green Day has cultivated over the last three decades, ‘Father Of All Motherf******’ finds the band experimenting with a new Motown-meets-garage rock sound. While I can take or leave “Fire Ready Aim” content-wise, I find a certain appeal to singles “Father Of All” and “Oh Yeah” in terms of groove and style. These are influences that came to the forefront in Foxboro Hottubs (a completely different band that just happens to share a few members) and it’ll be interesting to hear how they put the Green Day spin on it. (2/7)

2.       Stone Temple Pilots, ‘Perdida’: ‘Perdida’ is supposed to be an album unlike anything Stone Temple Pilots have released before. An acoustic album recorded with “unexpected instruments,” including flute, alto-sax, vintage keyboards, guitarrón and Marxophone, ‘Perdida’ is meant to showcase the emotional place these songs come from. Many of the tracks were written by singer Jeff Gutt about the “difficult moments in his life,” leading to a vulnerability you don’t always get from the full-fledged rock sound.  It will be interesting to hear a different side of this iconic band with this new album. 3.       Huey Lewis and the News, ‘Weather’: It’s been 10 years since Huey Lewis and the News released ‘Soulsville’ in 2010. Since then, a lot has happened, including Lewis’ 2018 revelation that he’d been suffering from hearing loss brought on by Ménière’s disease that ended the band’s touring prospects. Even with the diagnosis, he and the band will be releasing a new album, ‘Weather,’ in February. Their first featuring original songs since 2001’s ‘Plan B,’ ‘Weather’ finds the band back to their 80s Americana rock sound. Singles “While We’re Young” and “Her Love Is Killin’ Me” sound as if no time has passed. (2/14)

4.       Justin Bieber, ‘Changes’: It has been nearly five years since Justin Bieber released ‘Purpose,’ which featured his most mature music to date, as well as his biggest hits ever. Since then he’s done even more growing personally, taking a wife and dealing with the harsh realities of life (a.k.a. his struggles with Mono and Lyme Disease). Beiber is ready to face the world of music again with is upcoming album, ‘Changes.’ While I don’t quite understand the appeal of “Yummy,” there are plenty of people who seem to love it, as it debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Because of this and the hype surrounding its release, ‘Changes’ is guaranteed to be one of the biggest album releases of the year. (2/14)

5.       BTS, ‘Map Of The Soul: 7’: K-pop superstars BTS had a big year in 2019 with their EP ‘Map Of The Soul: Persona,’ breaking chart records left and right. The band’s upcoming full-length, ‘Map Of The Soul: 7,’ is poised to be even bigger. In pre-orders alone, the album blew past three million units, breaking the record they set with ‘Persona.’ Listening to the album’s first single, “Black Swan,” there’s a definite pop and hip-hop influence, but also a classical one with a beautiful string arrangement accompanying the beat, together guiding the song’s rather deep lyrics. If you’re into K-pop, I’m sure this will be an album not to miss. (2/21)

6.       Ozzy Osbourne, ‘Ordinary Man’: Osbourne has had one heck of a year, first with all of the side-lining injuries and then with the latest diagnosis of Parkinson’s. The one lifeline, what brought him back from the brink, is the music. In all of the chaos, Osbourne wrote a full album, set for release this month. His first in nearly a decade, the singles released so far prove that while his physical strength may be going, his ability to write great songs has not. “Under The Graveyard” and “Ordinary Man” are personal, thought-provoking tracks that find the Prince of Darkness looking back at his life and career while still managing to rock. (2/21)

7.       Five Finger Death Punch, ‘F8’: According to Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory, the band’s upcoming album, ‘F8,’ represents a “rebirth” for the group. It’s their first album since frontman Ivan Moody got sober, which is very much reflected in the album’s songs. You can hear the reflection and a bit of anger in the album’s first single, “Inside Out,” which was written about Moody’s addiction and the people and relationships that suffered because of it. Bathory says that the album sounds like the band, but it’s not the same band. Fans should definitely look forward to finding out what that means next month.(2/28)

New Albums to Watch for in September 2019

With September here, the summer release season is starting to come to a close, though there is still a lot to look forward to. This month has already given us some big albums from the likes of Post Malone, Alessia Cara and Lindsey Stirling, and there is still plenty more on the way.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’re once again looking ahead at some of the highly anticipated and best-bet albums still to come in September. Here are seven (and a few more) that we think will be worth keeping an eye out for this month.

1.       Goo Goo Dolls, ‘Miracle Pill’: The Goo Goo Dolls have a penchant for writing upbeat, feel-good songs and I expect no different from their upcoming album ‘Miracle Pill.’ The title track is an upbeat, piano and guitar-driven track with heavy bass that sounds in line with their most popular tracks. Single “Indestructible” is just as solid. (9/13)

2.       Korn, ‘The Nothing’: Korn releases their 13^th album, ‘The Nothing,’ this weekend. Many have been comparing the darkness and vibe of singles like “Never Gonna Find Me” and “Can You Hear Me” to that of the band’s debut self-titled album, though there is definitely more to it than that. There’s also a harshness to these songs that’s informed by new influences, feelings and experiences that keeps the sound fresh. (9/13)

3.       Blink-182, ‘Nine’: The songs coming off Blink-182’s upcoming album ‘Nine’ has so far been a bit all over the place musically, ranging from upbeat and bouncy (“Darkside,” “Blame It On My Youth”) to punk-y (“Generational Divide”) to low key (“I Really Wish I Hated You”). The only things that unites the songs is how dark and questioning the lyrics are. However, the band seems a bit more cohesive on these songs, finally embracing Matt Skiba’s voice and style, working that into their sound more. (9/20)

4.       Liam Gallagher, ‘Why Me? Why Not.’: ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ finds Oasis vocalist Liam Gallagher continuing the modified Brit-pop sound he cultivated with his 2017 debut solo album ‘As You Were,’ except this time co-writing all of the songs on the album. Songs like “Once” and “One of Us” are nostalgic looks back at the good old days in a very Oasis-like style. “Shockwave” and “The River,” on the other hand, are darker and heavier than his previous music. All are solid tracks that might just make for a strong album.(9/20)

5.       Keane, ‘Cause And Effect’: It’s been five years since Irish rockers Keane went on hiatus. But now they’re back with a brand new album, ‘Cause And Effect,’ out this month. Lead single “The Way I Feel” is upbeat, pop-y and very catchy, the perfect comeback track for the pop-rock band. Latest single “Love Too Much” isn’t as standout, but is still pretty solid. For those who haven’t listened to Keane since the early 2000s (like me), you will be pleasantly surprised. With such solid tracks, this could be an album worth hearing. (9/20)

6.       Tegan and Sara, ‘Hey, I’m Just Like You’: Tegan and Sara look towards the past with their upcoming album ‘Hey, I’m Just Like You.’ Filled with tracks written while the twins were still in high school, the completed songs sound like a blast from their pop-punk-leaning past. (9/27)

7.       Hellyeah, ‘Welcome Home’: Recorded just prior to the passing of Vinnie Paul Abbott in June 2018, ‘Welcome Home’ is the final album to feature the iconic metal drummer. The album was finished in Abbott’s memory and, according to Blabbermouth, “driven by their love, loyalty, reverence and respect for their fallen brother.” (9/27)

Albums to Watch For in August 2019

The new month of August begins this week, which means a whole new batch of albums will be hitting shelves just in time to add to your late summer playlist. With highly anticipated releases from Taylor Swift, Tool, Slipknot and more, August is gearing up to be a great month for new releases.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our picks for the albums to watch for in August 2019. Here are six (and a few more) we think will be worth checking out.

1.       Volbeat, ‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound’: Volbeat get eclectic with their upcoming album ‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound,’ out Friday. From the pop-punky “Leviathan” and the classic rock-leaning “Last Day Under The Sun” to the rockabilly “Pelvis on Fire” and hard rocking “Cheapside Sloggers,” there seem to be a lot of different elements being dealt out with this album. However different though, all of these singles are memorable and rock hard, which bodes well for the album. (8/2)

2.       Slipknot, ‘We Are Not Your Kind’: Slipknot will be releasing their sixth studio album, ‘We Are Not Your Kind,’ in August.  Frontman Corey Taylor said to NME in 2018 about the tone of the album, “It’s complicated, it’s dark, it’s heavy, it’s heavy, it’s melodic, it’s fierce, it’s angry, it’s raw as hell.” That seems to check out, as singles “Unsainted” and “Solway Firth” are intense, aggressive pieces of metal. 3.       Sleater-Kinney, ‘The Center Won’t Hold’: Sleater-Kinney continues their reunion this year with their upcoming ninth studio album, ‘The Center Won’t Hold.’ Produced by St. Vincent, the album features some of the band’s most biting lyricism and cultural commentary to date. Unfortunately, it will be the band’s last album with drummer Janet Weiss, who announced that she was leaving the band in July. (8/16)

4.       Frank Turner, ‘No Man’s Land’: Whereas much of Frank Turner’s repertoire is self-deprecating rock-tinged folk about himself, ‘No Man’s Land’ gets back to the storyteller nature of true folk. The songs, each about a famous woman in history, range from upbeat, jaunty tunes about tavern owner / “witch” Jinny Bingham and early rocker Sister Rosetta Thorpe to low, brooding tracks about dancer Mata Hari. (8/16)

5.       Taylor Swift, ‘Lover’: One of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, ‘Lover’ finds Taylor Swift engaging the happy, bubbly Taylor she drowned in darkness on her last album, 2017’s ‘Reputation.’ The aesthetic associated with the new album cycle is colorful, as evidenced by the imagery in the videos for “Me!” and “You Need to Calm Down.” Both of those singles landed at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while the album has reportedly set pre-order records on Apple Music, so it’s not a stretch to say that this will be a hot release.  (8/23)

6.       Tool, ‘Fear Inoculum’: After years of lawsuits and slow progress, Tool’s first album of new music in 13 years, ‘Fear Inoculum’ is finally making its way to shelves this August. The wait alone makes this another one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, and the slow trickle of information on it only adds fuel to that fire. (8/30)

Albums Coming Out in July 2019

July is here and the summer release schedule is just heating up. This month will see some hot new releases coming to stores, including highly anticipated projects from the likes of Marshmello, Ed Sheeran, Sum 41 and more.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve compiled a list highlighting some of the biggest albums and best bets hitting shelves in the month of July. Here are seven albums (and a few more) we think will be worth looking out for.

1.       Marshmello, ‘Joytime III’: Producer / DJ Marshmello has been having a banner couple of years, especially when it came to 2018’s multiplatinum stand-alone single “Happier,” his collaboration with Bastille. The artist releases his third album, ‘Joytime III,’ today, just in time for the long July 4 weekend. Having heard single “Rescue Me,” his collaboration with hard rockers A Day to Remember, and its impressive combination of the two artists’ genres, I think this could be one of the hottest albums of the summer.  (7/3)

2.       Joey Cape, ‘Let Me Know When You Give Up’: Joey Cape, best known as frontman for punk rockers Lagwagon, is releasing his fourth solo album, ‘Let Me Know When You Give Up,’ this week. The sound is a little brighter and more instrumental than his previous solo efforts, which mainly consisted of vocals and guitar. According to an interview with Kerrang, Cape said of the album, “I wanted to say the things I wanted to say, but I really wanted at the core was a guideline to remain hopeful, to try to inflate this idea of things being better to and not control everything and be a positive force.” (7/5)

3.       Ed Sheeran, ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project’: Anything Ed Sheeran touches turns to gold and that is sure to prove true again when the British singer-songwriter releases his fourth album ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project’ this month. The album’s first two singles, “I Don’t Care” featuring Justin Bieber and “Cross Me” featuring Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock, have already amassed huge success on the charts with the latter having already gone platinum in some countries. There is no doubt that this is one of the most anticipated albums of the summer. (7/12)

4.       Sum 41, ‘Order in Decline’: Early 2000s punk rockers Sum 41 are back this month with their most anticipated album in a while. ‘Order in Decline’ is set to feature some of the band’s heaviest work to date, and that’s not just talk from a press release. The album’s first single “Out for Blood” reached number 18 on the Mainstream Rock chart, their first single in nearly 15 years to do so. Their latest single, “Never There,” about frontman Deryck Whibley’s non-existent relationship with his father, is one of the most emotionally songs he has ever written. (7/19)

5.       Violent Femmes, ‘Hotel Last Resort’: Making up for lost time, the Violent Femmes release their latest album, ‘Hotel Last Resort,’ the follow-up to their first album in 16 years, ‘We Can Do Anything’ (2016), this month. The band told Rolling Stone that this is one of their most cohesive albums to date, saying “It’s a classic album, in the sense that people should actually sit down and listen to the whole thing. It’s not too long. It’s short, it’s punchy, it’s solid, it’s to the point, goes a few different directions but it always comes back to the core approach and then it’s over.” (7/26)

6.       NF, ‘The Search’: NF has been making a name for himself in the rap game over the last few years with his honest, upfront and personal lyricism. His single “The Search,” from his upcoming album of the same name, is as impressive and captivating as it is deep, discussing his mental health issues in the wake of his sudden fame. If the other tracks on the album are this special, ‘The Search’ could end up being a great album. (7/26)

7.       Sugar Ray, ‘Little Yachty’: It’s been more than 10 years since 1990s rockers Sugar Ray released their last studio album, the middle-of-the-road 2008 flop ‘Music For Cougars.’ The band ends this decade-long recording hiatus this month with the release of their upcoming seventh studio album ‘Little Yachty.’ According to Billboard, frontman Mark McGrath said the band took their time with this album, trying to recreate the beach-y vibe of their heyday. “So we just decided to make a record our fans wanted to hear. It was a fun record to make, top to bottom.” (7/26)

Albums Coming Out June 2019

June is here and so is the summer new release season. There are a lot of highly anticipated albums coming out this month, including projects from the likes of Avicii, the Jonas Brothers, Madonna, The Raconteurs and The Black Keys.

With the first New Music Friday of the month coming up this week, Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, is taking a look at some of the biggest albums and best bets set to hit shelves in the month of June. Here are seven albums (and a few more picks) we think will be worth keeping an eye out for this month.

1.       Avicii, ‘Tim’: Just over a year after electronic music producer Avicii’s (nee Tim Bergling) untimely death, his posthumous third album, ‘Tim,’ is being released. Work on the album had started before his passing with some of his collaborators pitching in to help finish it. Proceeds from the album’s sales will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, which helps “treat mental illness and prevent suicide.” (6/6)

2.       Jonas Brothers, ‘Happiness Begins’: After six years of leading separate lives and prosperous solo careers, the Jonas Brothers have reunited and are releasing a new album to make it official. The band of brothers has already released two highly successful comeback singles, with the sleek and catchy “Sucker” debuting at number one on the Billboard charts. The release also coincides with the premiere of their new Amazon Prime documentary, ‘Chasing Happiness.’(6/7)

3.       Perry Farrell, ‘Kind Heaven’: Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell releases his first solo album in 18 years, ‘Kind Heaven,’ this Friday. Based on his Las Vegas destination venture of the same name, the album was produced by Tony Visconti (David Bowie) and features collaborations with Dhani Harrison, Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins, The Cars’ Elliot Easton, Tommy Lee and more. 4.       Madonna, ‘Madame X’: Madonna has been releasing music consistently throughout the last four decades, somehow molding herself to fit into the popular music of the era. Her upcoming 14^th studio effort, ‘Madame X,’ finds her doing the same. It’s almost uncanny how much singles “Medellin,” “I Rise” and “Crave” find the “Queen of Pop” sounding like all the other female singers that are popular right now. (6/14)

5.       Noah Kahan, ‘Busyhead’: This month he finally releases his debut album, ‘Busyhead.’ The culmination of years of slowly building up a fanbase with his folk rock sound, singer-songwriter Noah Kahan releases his debut album, ‘Busyhead,’ this month. Tunes like “Young Blood,” “Hurt Somebody,” “False Confidence” and “Mess” are catchy and honest, giving me high hopes that the album will be one not to miss. (6/14)

6.       The Raconteurs, ‘Help Us Stranger’: The Raconteurs return this month after a more than 11 year hiatus with their third studio album, ‘Help Us Stranger.’ Featuring singles “Sunday Driver” and “Now That You’re Gone,” which were originally released as part of the tenth anniversary rerelease of ‘Consolers of the Lonely,’ the album continues the band’s mission to “push rock n’ roll forward into its future” through “prodigious riffs, blues power, sinewy psychedelia, Detroit funk, and Nashville soul.” (6/21)

7.       The Black Keys, “Let’s Rock”: The Black Keys return after five years this month with their ninth studio album, “Let’s Rock” (stylized with the quotation marks). Self-produced by the duo of Pat Carney and Dan Auerbach, the album is said to harken back to the band’s more rock-influenced roots. Featuring no keyboards on it whatsoever, Carney told Pitchfork that the album more of “an homage to electric guitar.” (6/28)

New Albums to Watch For in April 2019

April is here, which means a brand new batch of new albums is getting ready to hit shelves over the course of the next few weeks. There are some highly anticipated pop and rock albums on that list, including titles from BTS, P!nk, Sara Bareilles, AJR and Cage the Elephant, as well as the final album from The Cranberries.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of the new albums we’re excited to see hit shelves in April. From the highly anticipated to the highly interesting, here are six albums to keep an eye out for.

1.       Andy Black, ‘The Ghost of Ohio’: Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack is releasing his second solo album under stage name Andy Black, ‘The Ghost of Ohio,’ this month. The album is the follow-up to his well received 2016 debut ‘The Shadow Side.’ Biersack has already released three singles that take the hard rock of BVB and gives it a pop tinge that takes a bit of the edge off. Alongside the album, a graphic novel of the same name is being released with Z2 Comics. (4/12)

2.       BTS, ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’: South Korean boy band BTS has proven themselves to be a driving force of the new global K-Pop phenomenon. Last year the group released two highly successful albums, of which ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ became their first number one album in the US and the first K-Pop album to hold that top spot. This month, the band releases the first in their next series of themed albums, ‘Map of the Soul: Persona.’ Pre-orders are already exceeding two-and-a-half million copies, so this album is, without a doubt, highly anticipated and going to be one of the hottest of the year. 3.       Cage the Elephant, ‘Social Cues’: Written at a tumultuous time in frontman Matt Shultz’s life, ‘Social Cues’ finds Cage the Elephant heading in a different direction musically. Lead single “Ready To Let Go” has a noticeably darker sound to it than the band’s previous, more punk-y indie-rock fare. The band explores new influences as well, with the 80s-synth-filled “House of Glass” and the reggae-tinged Beck-featuring “Night Running,” though they are still underlined by this dark, stoic, down beat vibe. 4.       AJR, ‘Neotheater’: Bursting onto the pop-rock scene in 2017 with their sophomore album, ‘The Click,’ AJR is ready to prove that the band of brothers is not just a one-hit wonder with the release of their upcoming third album, ‘Neotheater.’  The band has already been ramping things up as evidenced by the big, triumphant horn-filled sound of first single “100 Bad Days.” Latest single “Birthday Party” isn’t as bouncy, instead going for a Jason Mraz-like easy vibe with added hip-hop beats, more horns and lyrics exploring the innocence of childhood. 5.       King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, ‘Fishing for Fishies’: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are an interesting band with very unique sound. For example, the titular single of their upcoming 14^th studio album, ‘Fishing for Fishies,’ is light and bouncy, mirroring perfectly what it might feel like to be fishing at a river on a hot, sunny country day. In contrast, first single “Cyboogie” is electronic and heavy with a bit of jazz mixed in. This is sure to be an eclectic album with many more twists and turns, which could make it an exciting listen. 6.       The Cranberries, ‘In The End’: At the time of The Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan’s untimely death, the band was working on a new album. To honor her memory, the band finished the album using the vocal tracks O’Riordan had already recorded, and are now releasing it under the title ‘In The End.’ The album marks the end of an era, as this will understandably be the band’s final studio release. New Albums to Watch for in March 2019

So far, March has been a very impactful month for music releases. We’re not even a full week into the month and already we’ve seen some of the most anticipated new releases of the year hit shelves, including titles from the likes of Weezer, Gary Clark, Jr., Hozier, In Flames, Queensryche, Solange and Bryan Adams.

Those titles are just the beginning. With the month not even half-way over yet, there is still a wealth of highly anticipated titles on the horizon set to drop in March.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, is taking a look at the new albums still to come in March 2019. From rock and pop to metal and beyond, here are six albums you’ll want to watch out for this month.

1.       Buckcherry, ‘Warpaint’: ‘Warpaint’ sees hard rock band Buckcherry return to the more radio-ready songs of their early years. For the album, the band reunited with producer Mike Plotnikoff, who also worked on the band’s breakthrough 2005 album ‘15.’ As much as it is familiar, the band also looks to be expanding their sound and exploring new influences on the album, with a handful of tracks adding a bit of a country-tinge to their hard rock sound. 2.       The Picturebooks, ‘The Hands of Time’: A friend told me about The Picturebooks the other day, and I have to say, I’m really excited to hear more. The band mixes heavy alt-rock with folk and blues to create this high-energy, hoedown-ready sound that will have you up and dancing in no time. Check out the title track from their upcoming album and hear what I mean. (3/8)

3.       Karen O and Danger Mouse, ‘Lux Prima’: Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O and producer / musician Danger Mouse are finally releasing their first collaboration, ‘Lux Prima,’ this month. A mix of soul and psych-rock, the sound of songs like “Woman” are a bit of a departure from Karen O’s punk roots, but not unwelcome. (3/15)

4.       Billie Eilish, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go’: Billie Eilish has been having a breakout year so far. The low sung, kind of creepy “bury a friend” and latest single  “Wish You Were Gay” have been doing exceedingly well on alternative radio, propelling the 17-year-old singer to selling out shows in large venues across the country. All that and her debut album doesn’t even come out for another couple of weeks. (3/29)

5.       Simple Creatures, ‘Strange Love’ EP: Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth set aside the pop-punk sound both bands are known for with their new collaboration Simple Creatures, instead going for a more pop-rock one. So far, the duo has released two very different tracks, the fast-paced electronic tinged “Drug” and the more 80s pop-inspired title track. Hoppus and Gaskarth seem to have a great cooperative relationship, so I’d be interested to hear what comes out. (3/29)

6.       Ben Platt, ‘Sing To Me Instead’: Best known as the originator of Evan Hansen in Broadway’s ‘Dear Evan Hansen,’ Ben Platt makes the transition over to pop singer with his debut album, ‘Sing To Me Instead.’ From the first few singles, there is a chance the album will end up sounding a bit show tune-y, though you never know. Perhaps the album will be more like his last single “Grow As We Go,” showing off a more singer-songwriter pop-vibe. (3/29)

New Releases Coming Out in January 2019

The 2019 album release season is just getting started and there plenty of reasons to be excited. January alone is set to see some big albums hit shelves, including titles from the likes of the Backstreet Boys, Mike Posner, Maggie Rogers, Meghan Trainor, Say Anything, Papa Roach, Switchfoot and more.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, is taking a look at some of the albums set to hit shelves during the month of January. Here are six rock albums we think will be worth checking out this month.

1.       Taking Back Sunday, ‘Twenty’: Taking Back Sunday celebrates its 20^th anniversary in 2019. Alongside a handful of special shows, including a few last month where the band played their first three albums in their entirety, they also have a new retrospective coming out this week. ‘Twenty’ includes all the bands hits, as well as two new songs, one of which is the recently released single “All Ready To Go.” The track list celebrates everything about the band from beginning to now and the new songs give a peak at the sound we can look forward to in the future. 2.       Papa Roach, ‘Who Do You Trust’: Papa Roach has been playing around with their sound a lot over the last few years. With 2017’s ‘Crooked Teeth,’ the addition of hip-hop elements felt new and a bit unexpected. ‘Who Do You Trust’ is said to continue this experimental nature. Having heard the few singles so far, the mix of heavy rock and outside genre influences seems much more integrated and less jarringly different than the last album. (1/18)

3.       Switchfoot, ‘Native Tongue’: Following a very short hiatus, Switchfoot is back with brand new music this year. So far, the singles from ‘Native Tongue’ have been fantastic pieces of alt-rock, expanding on the band’s penchant for hopeful and catchy tunes. If you haven’t heard them in a while, this might be the album to get you back in.  (1/18)

4.       Backstreet Boys, ‘DNA’: The Backstreet Boys had a banner year in 2018. Besides a successful Las Vegas residency, the band announced they were releasing a new album and had a number one hit with its first single, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” I have to admit, I liked 2013’s “In A World Like This” better than both “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and “Chances,” which worries me for the album a bit, but their latest single “No Place” is a very heartwarming, country-inspired song that seems to draw more from what they have been doing lately. The other songs have grown on me though and I’m counting on BSB’s ability to make feel good music to come through. (1/25)

5.       The Dandy Warhols, ‘Why You So Crazy’: Celebrating 25 years together, alt-rockers The Dandy Warhols have a new album coming out this month. According to a press release posted on the band’s website, ‘Why You So Crazy’ finds the band at their most “freewheeling,” offering up the eclectic sound they’ve become known for. The band has already released two singles that couldn’t be more different, the dark, ethereal piano rocker “Forever” and the slower, more psych-pop-y “Be Alright.” (1/25)

6.       Say Anything, ‘Oliver Appropriate’: Last year, Say Anything frontman Max Bemis announced that the band would be going on hiatus following the release of one last album. That album, ‘Oliver Appropriate,’ comes out this month. According to that announcement, the album is based around the character of Oliver, who is struggling with life, love, sexuality and fear. Having heard a few of the pre-album release tracks, the sound has the same angry, passionate, intense pop-punk feel you would expect from the band. (1/25)

Albums Coming Out in December 2018

December is here! As the year begins to draw to a close, there is still much to look forward to in the coming weeks. That includes new album releases.

Even with the holiday slow down, there are still some hot new releases coming before we hit 2019. Zayn Malik’s long-awaited new album will be hitting shelves. In hip-hop, Ice Cube makes his solo return after nearly a decade away while up-and-comer XXXTentacion drops his first posthumous album. Established rockers like Van Morrison, John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen all have albums coming out. This month will also see new pop punk releases from AFI and Reel Big Fish.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of December 2018’s most anticipated new album releases. Here are seven we can’t wait to get our hands on.

1.       XXXTentacion, ‘Skins’: Controversial rapper XXXTentacion releases his third album today, the first following his death in June. The artist had been lauded as one of the best new voices in the hip-hop game, amassing a large following within a short period of time. (12/7)

2.       Van Morrison, ‘The Prophet Speaks’: The next installment in Van Morrison’s string of cover / original albums hits shelves today. This time, the singer takes on vocal jazz and R&B, paying homage to greats like Sam Cooke, WillieDixon and John Lee Hooker. (12/7)

3.       AFI, ‘The Missing Man’ EP: Following a string of teaser photos with only a silhouette of frontman Davey Havok present, dark pop-punk band AFI announced the release of a brand new EP, ‘The Missing Man.’ From the singles released thus far, it feels like the band is going back to their roots with the dark, pop-y sound of their early albums. 4.       Ice Cube, ‘Everythang’s Corrupt’: After focusing on his successful NWA biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ Ice Cube is back with his first solo album in eight years, ‘Everythang’s Corrupt.’ Not one to shy away from politics, the album is filled with tracks that challenging authority and making you think. 5.       ZAYN, ‘Icarus Falls’: Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik returns with his sophomore solo album this month. More than a year in the making, the singer has released seven singles from the 27-track album so far, many of which have been charting around the world. (12/14)

6.       Bruce Springsteen, ‘Springsteen on Broadway’: For those who didn’t have a chance to see Bruce Springsteen’s one-man Broadway show before it closes this month (or those who want to relive it), The Boss is releasing a soundtrack album from the show. Featuring songs and commentary, it’s a companion piece to the Netflix special that also drops this month. (12/14)

7.       Reel Big Fish, ‘Life Sucks…Let’s Dance!’: It has been six years, but ska punks Reel Big Fish are finally releasing a new album, ‘Life Sucks…Let’s Dance,’ this month. According to an interview with AltPress, frontman Aaron Barrett said of the album, “There’s a little pissed off-ness in there and some sarcastic, funny lyrics as usual. Also, I just got married, so there might be a few sappy love songs on the album, too.” He continued, “We all get along really well these days, and everybody was excited to make a new record. Everybody had lots of great ideas and really got creative with everything, and I really think it shows.” (12/21)
