New Albums to Watch Out for in July 2017

Now that July is finally here, it’s time to take a look at some of the new albums making their way to store shelves this month.

From comebacks to follow-ups and posthumous albums, there is a lot to look forward to in terms of new albums coming out in July. Haim, Lana Del Rey, Manchester Orchestra and Arcade Fire are all releasing highly anticipated new albums this month. Broken Social Scene are making their big return after their highly-publicized hiatus, as is Goldfinger, who is returning with a new line-up after 10 years. July will also see the final album from Suicide’s Alan Vega, who passed away this time last year.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, has been looking out for the latest upcoming releases. Here are 10 that you need to keep an eye out for over the next month.

1.       Broken Social Scene, ‘Hug Of Thunder’: Broken Social Scene are making the end of their hiatus official this month with the release of ‘Hug Of Thunder,’ the band’s first album in more than seven years. All 15 of the band’s original members contributed to the album.  Their previous album, 2010’s ‘Forgiveness Rock Record,’ was the band’s first number one album, so the band of friends has a lot to live up to. 2.       Haim, ‘Something To Tell You’: The Haim sisters have been everywhere over the last few months teasing their sophomore release, ‘Something To Tell You.’ Now the album is finally going to be released this Friday. The first two singles have been doing very well with fans and critics, so we’ll see how the rest of the album holds up. (7/7)

3.       Alan Vega, ‘IT’: The lead singer of Suicide passed away almost a year ago.  To mark the one-year anniversary, Vega’s estate will be releasing ‘IT,’ the solo album he had been working on with collaborator Liz Lamere at the time of his death. (7/14)

4.       Foster the People, ‘Sacred Hearts Club’: In April, Foster the People released a three-song EP, giving fans a taste of what they will be hearing on their upcoming new album, ‘Sacred Hearts Club.’ Now, the full album, the band’s third, will be making its way to store shelves this month. The band hit a bit of a slump with their sophomore effort, 2014’s ‘Supermodel,’ so they will be looking to redeem themselves with this effort. (7/21)

5.       Goldfinger, ‘The Knife’: It’s been nearly 10 years since Goldfinger has released a new album. In fact, the band has pretty much been broken up since 2013. But now the band is back with a brand new line-up and a brand new album, ‘The Knife,’ out this month. Now featuring guitarist Phillip Sneed, MXPX frontman/bassist Mike Herrera, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker alongside sole original member John Feldmann, it will be interesting to see where this new incarnation of the band goes. (7/21)

6.       Lana Del Rey, ‘Lust for Life’: Another album with a lot of hype behind it, Lana Del Rey is set to release her fifth studio album, ‘Lust for Life.’ The singer has already premiered three blessed-out singles from the album, keeping fans on the edge of their seat. (7/21)

7.       Alice Cooper, ‘Paranormal’: Alice Cooper is making his return this month with ‘Paranormal,’ his 27th studio album and first in nearly six years. The album features several special guests, including ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and U2’s Larry Mullen.  (7/28)

8.       Cage the Elephant, ‘Unpeeled’: Cage the Elephant are releasing a new live album at the end of the month titled ‘Unpeeled.’ Recorded during their “Live & Unpeeled” tour earlier this year, the album features stripped-down versions of the band’s hits and fan favorites, as well as a cover of the Reckless Eric hit “Whole Wide World,” the album’s first single. (7/28)

9.       Manchester Orchestra, ‘A Black Mile to the Surface’: After a stint writing music for the film ‘Swiss Army Man,’ Manchester Orchestra return to their own catalog with their highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘A Black Mile to the Surface.’ Inspired by their work on the soundtrack, the band told Paste that they wanted to do something different with this album, “rethinking what is possible.” (7/28)

10.   Arcade Fire, ‘Everything Now’: Following up the success of the band’s 2015 album, ‘Reflektor,’ Arcade Fire are back with a new album, ‘Everything Now,’ coming out at the end of July.  The band has already released two synth-infused singles from the album to positive reviews, so there some pretty high expectations for the album upon its release. (7/28)

July is gearing up to be a great month for new rock and pop releases. A number of big artists are making their returns this month, meaning there are a lot of highly anticipated albums set for release. Keep an eye out for the above releases in the coming weeks and get excited for all the new music to come.
