Another work week is almost in the books and the weekend
will be here in just a few short hours. Now’s the time to finalize your weekend
plans. And what better way to spend your weekend than with some live music or
comedy.
Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island's top music outlet, loves live music and wants to help you
celebrate the weekend right. That is why we have picked eight shows that we
know you will love. From the continuation of Billy Joel’s unprecedented run at
Madison Square Garden and legends Arlo Guthrie and Taj Mahal playing
side-by-side to Saving Ferris making their musical comeback and David Cassidy’s
graceful exit from touring, there is no excuse not to see some live music this
weekend.
1.
Billy
Joel: Billy Joel continues his sold out residency at Madison Square Garden
tonight. Now on his 39th show at the venue, the “Piano Man” doesn’t
seem to be losing any steam, continuing to thrill his fan base month after
month. (Friday, Madison Square Garden)
2.
The
English Beat: The English Beat is continuing their Here We Go tour tonight
in Brooklyn. The US arm of the legendary British ska band is set to release their
long-awaited new album, ‘Here We Go Love,’ later this year. (Friday, The Hall
at MP)
3.
Save Ferris: If ska-punk is more your thing,
Save Ferris is coming through the Tri-State area this weekend. The band, who
rose to fame in the late 90s with their cover of “Come On Eileen,” recently
returned to the music scene after a nearly 18 year hiatus, albeit with a
largely new line-up that leaves Monique Powell as the only original member. The
band released their new EP, ‘Checkered Past,’ in February. (Friday, Stone Pony;
Saturday, Gramercy Theatre)
4.
Pat
Benatar & Neil Giraldo: Female rock icon Pat Benatar recently released
a new song earlier this year, her first since 2015’s “One December Night.”
Titled “Shine,” the song was written as an empowerment anthem in support of the
Women’s March on Washington that occurred in January. Benatar and her husband
Neil Giraldo are on tour throughout March. (Saturday, St. George Theater)
5.
Arlo Guthrie and Taj
Mahal: Folk legend Arlo Guthrie and blues legend Taj Mahal have teamed up
for two shows in the Tri-State area this weekend, including a show right here
on Long Island. If you can’t make these once-in-a-lifetime shows, Taj Mahal
will also be playing at Carnegie Hall on March 6. (Saturday, Tilles Center)
6.
David Cassidy: After revealing last month that
he is battling the early stages of dementia, Cassidy has announced that this
Saturday’s show at B.B. King’s will be his final live show…EVER. Though not the
end of his music career, you won’t want to miss the former teen heartthrob perform
his hits live one last time. (Saturday, B.B. King Blues Club)
7.
Anvil:
Anvil released a new album last year, titled ‘Anvil is Anvil,’ and is currently
on a full-out North American tour behind it that will have the band on the road
through May. The band is also celebrating their 40th anniversary this
year. (Sunday, Studio at Webster Hall)
8.
Dave Chappelle: Chappelle made his official
return to the stage late last year, hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ back in
November. Now, the comedian is releasing three new specials on Netflix, two of
which will be out March 21. He is performing at the Gramercy Theatre on Sunday
as part of the venue’s 10th anniversary. Tickets for the show go on
sale today and no cell phones will be allowed in the building. (Sunday,
Gramercy Theatre)
Add some music or comedy to the mix this weekend by checking
out one of these shows. Getting out to see
a live show is one of the best ways to support your favorite artists and
make memories that will last forever.
