The new issue of Good Times
Magazine is out now! What’s more, Vinyl Bay 777
is being featured in it!
This month, the bi-weekly, free publication is running a feature
on local record shops. Titled “Vinyl is King – Again: Your Guide to Area Record
Stores,” the three-page spread highlights 12 Long Island shops, each talking about
vinyl, the music scene and detailing their best-selling records.
Vinyl Bay 777 is featured first in the guide, mentioning the
thousands of titles on sale now in store and online. The focus is shifted
towards the ample rock music section, detailing new releases and best-sellers
from such artists as Deep Purple, Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, Blink-182, Red
Hot Chili Peppers, Kiss and Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as their current
pre-order for the new Metallica record coming out in November. It also makes
mention of the store’s participation in Rhino Records’ Rocktober event, which
sees new albums from some of the label’s top artists being released every
Tuesday in October.
The feature comes at a very appropriate time, as vinyl
records have made a comeback in the last 10 years. For a time in the 1980s and
1990s, cassettes and CDs surpassed vinyl in popularity and by the mid-late
2000s with the advent of digital downloads; it looked like all physical mediums
would fade into obscurity. But events like Record Store Day have led to a new
sort of popularity for the tried and true medium of vinyl. People are looking
for physical albums once again and labels are once again producing new music for
the medium. You can now find new vinyl at big chains like Barnes & Noble
and Urban Outfitters.
However, it’s the small shops that are really benefiting
from the resurgence. There is a fascination with used records as much as there
is a call for new ones. These are the places people congregate to talk about
music and find out about new artists and discover the music of more established
artists. You never know what kinds of rare gems you might find combing through
a record shop’s bins.
“Vinyl is back and we are your music outlet,” says Vinyl Bay
777 owner Frank Napoli in the article. “We have every genre there is, from easy
listening to jazz, a huge blues selection, and a large collection of original
releases of rock. We have a large collection of rap and disco as well. We grade
and clean our vinyl, and we make sure you are getting the proper records.”
A half-page ad for Vinyl Bay 777 is also featured on page
three of the issue.
The October 4-17, 2016 issue of Good Times Magazine is
available now. The record store guide runs from page two to four of the issue.
