Seven Albums to Watch Out For in October 2016

Here at Vinyl Bay 777, we love new music. When our favorite artists announce that they will be coming out with something new, we can’t wait to hear it.

October 2016 is seeing so many great artists putting out new music that it is hard to choose which ones to get excited about. Some haven’t released music in more than a decade while others are following up on the hype of their last few albums.

Here are seven titles coming out in October that you should be on the lookout for.

1.       Barry Gibb, ‘In the Now’: ‘In the Now’ will be Barry Gibb’s first album of all-new material in more than 15 years. The last time he put out new music was with the Bee Gees in 2001 and, due to his brothers Maurice and Robin’s deaths, there had been nothing since. (October 7)

2.       Green Day, ‘Revolution Radio’: Following the band’s 2012 trio of albums and singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s stint in rehab, Green Day will be releasing their 12th studio album, ‘Revolution Radio,’ on October 7. From the three singles we’ve heard so far, they have returned to their punk roots, but in true GD fashion throw in a few curveballs. “Still Alive” sounds very different from anything the band has released thus far, but it’s so good. The album also includes a couple of songs from Armstrong’s new film, ‘Ordinary World.’ (October 7)

3.       Sum 41, ‘13 Voices’: It has been five years since Sum 41 released their last album, 2011’s ‘Screaming Bloody Murder.’ A lot has happened since then, including the departure of original drummer Steve Jocz, singer Deryck Whibley attending to a drinking problem, and the return of lead guitarist Dave Baksh. However, the band is coming back stronger than ever this year with the release of ‘13 Voices.’ From the first three singles released, “Fake My Own Death,” “War” and “God Save Us All,” you can tell that this is going to be a hard-rocking album. (October 7)

4.       Kings of Leon, ‘WALLS’: Kings of Leon saw a lot of success in 2008 with their album ‘Only by the Night’ and it’s huge single “Sex on Fire.” The band has continued that success for the last eight years, and it’s looking like their seventh album, ‘We Are Like Love Songs’ (aka ‘WALLS’), will once again extend it. There is a lot of fanfare about this album. Hopefully it lives up to it. (October 14)

5.       Two Tongues, ‘Two Tongues Two’: The supergroup side-project spearheaded by Say Anything’s Max Bemis and Saves the Day’s Chris Conley haven’t released a new album since their debut in 2009. That will change when the band releases ‘Two Tongues Two’ on the 21st. The band will also be heading out on their first ever tour together this fall to support the album, which stops at Brooklyn’s Bell House on November 9. (October 14)

6.       Jimmy Eat World, ‘Integrity Blues’: The epitome of third-wave “emo,” Jimmy Eat World have been a consistent favorite in many circles. However, there has been more interest in what the band is up to recently due to the inclusion of their breakout single, “The Middle,” being used in an Apple Music commercial with Taylor Swift. ‘Integrity Blues’ is the band’s ninth studio album, the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Damage.’ (October 21)

7.       Lady Gaga, ‘Joanne’: Fans have been wondering when Lady Gaga would be releasing her next pop album. After all, it seems like she has been focusing more on acting lately with a turn on the hit  show ‘American Horror Story,’ as well as becoming a jazz singer and releasing an album with Tony Bennett. With the release of ‘Joanne’ this month, fans will be happy to know that Mother Monster is back in top form. She has already released the poppy “Perfect Illusion,” which shows a slightly new, less electronic direction for the singer. (October 21)

Bonus:

8.       American Football, ‘American Football’: It has been 17 years since American Football has released an album together. After breaking up in 2000, each band went on to do separate projects, including buzz band Cap’n Jazz. However, after regrouping 14 years later the band has been working on a new self-titled album, which will finally be released this month. (October 21)

It is always exciting to get new music from your favorite artists. Whether it has taken 15 years to follow up or only three, there is joy in seeing where an artist’s career is taking them.

October 2016 is going to be a great month for music. With releases from artists of all genres, from punk and pop to rock and dance, you can’t go wrong just going to your local record shop and browsing for new music.
