Week in Review: New Songs / Music Videos You Need to Check Out (October 28-November 3, 2018)

Over a given week, there is a lot of new music that attempts to make its way to us. And with the stresses of the week, it can be hard to keep up with the pace. With the weekend in full swing, this is a great time to take a look back at some of the new music that came out over the last seven days.

There have been a lot of great new songs and music videos released this week. We got some new pop music from the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, Halsey, Anne-Marie, Clean Bandit and Imagine Dragons. Indie-rockers Pedro The Lion made their return after nearly 15 years with a new single. We got some new rock and pop-punk videos from Stand Atlantic, As It Is, Blue October, Real Friends, Sunflower Bean, Korn’s Jonathan Davis and more.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve searched the internet for some of the best new songs and music videos to be released over the last week. Here are six of our favorites that we know you’re going to love.

1.       Pedro The Lion, “Yellow Bike”: Pedro The Lion made their return this week, releasing the single “Yellow Bike,” the first from their upcoming first album in 15 years, ‘Phoenix.’ Sung in frontman and sole consistent member David Bazan’s lightly raspy voice, “Yellow Bike” tells of the newfound freedom he felt after receiving his first bike and relating it to his life on the road. The storytelling in the song is so vivid and relatable, while the melody is soft and hazy. (Video)

2.       Benny Blanco & Calvin Harris, “I Found You”: Bound by a strong kick drum beat, “I Found You” has a soulful, upbeat vibe that exudes positivity. The video is also very positive and charming, featuring Blanco dancing in front of a white backdrop with a rotating cast of friends and family joining him on set to dance with him. (Video)

3.       Anne-Marie, “Perfect To Me”: Anne-Marie’s “Perfect To Me” is a bold expression of one’s personal perfection. The song speaks frankly about being able to love yourself, saying that you don’t have to conform to cultural and societal norms to be perfect. It does this with a minimalist melody and beat, highlighting the importance of the point the lyrics are trying to convey. (Video)

4.       Carly Rae Jepsen, “Party For One”: Carley Rae Jepsen’s latest single “Party For One” is about not needing anyone but yourself to have a good time. The song’s pop-y confidence is infectious, much like the fun vibe she brings to all of her music. (Video)

5.       Pistol Annies, “Got My Name Changed Back”: I don’t usually go for straight-up country tracks. However, “Got My Name Changed Back” grabs you with its uniqueness. Celebrating divorce, the women’s empowerment anthem is full of country twang and lyrics about taking your life back. Aided by a video that features the country supertrio of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley dancing in a courtroom, the song is a comical take on a subject that is all too real for a lot of people. 6.       Stand Atlantic, “Skinny Dipping”: The more I listen to “Skinny Dipping,” the more I like it. It has that bouncy energy of early-mid-2000s pop-punk infused with honest lyrics about feeling vulnerable. The song’s chorus is also very much an earworm that will repeat over and over again in your head. (Video)
